What's new

A guild for new players. An idea.

#1
A lot of players here have talked about how there are newbies who don't know much about UO and are being discouraged from learning because they are getting Pked.

While I am skeptical about how large this population is, I do prefer to solve issues in game rather than appealing to the Dev Gods to nerf PKs further than they already are.

So how about this:

How many of you philanthropist veteran players who say that they are concerned about this issue are willing to contribute to forming a new guild [NEW].

We could put out the word that players can only remain in [NEW] for a limited time. This guild could receive donations of bandages and basic armor that vet players usually trash. Their Guild Title could be "New to UO". We can spread the word to PKs that this guild was formed to help new players in an effort to avoid restrictions being placed on active or abusive PKs, so it would be in the PKs interest to not screw with the new players.

Obviously it wouldn't save all of the newbs from negative interactions, but perhaps it would spare them a significant amount.

We can monitor the stats and skills of the newbie players, and once they're GMing skills they can be booted, in order to keep NEW from vets attempting to abuse the protections.

Also, new players would be able meet and form friendships and perhaps form their own guild.

Just a thought.

Who would be willing to contribute to such an idea?

We had something similar on another shard and it worked well. We also had a new player donation box that vets could drop unused items into.

Having this guild as an extended unofficial 'young' status could help newer or old returning players find their feet in Outlands. This of course depends on the cooperation of PKs to not target [New] players and for officers of the guild to be watchful of people exploiting the guild.

I like it and whilst I am heavily involved with [Prev], I'm happy to donate items such as bandages and starting tools to help people find their feet.

The positive engagement of this server is our responsibility as players, so something like this to help upskill and grow the server pop is great.

Also think about all those low grade magic items that we recycle. They would be useful in the hands of newer players.

I earned quit a bit of low grade gear I sell to the vendors or even trash.

If we get more people willing to contribute I'd be happy to do my share.

Working on something similar to this but geared more towards Role Players. Develop a general hub for our Role Players giving them opportunity to develop their story and stay with us or find a RP guild more their style and skill set.

I am a new player. Started like 1 or 2 days ago, not sure because haven't slept yet. Anyway, this is great, even 100 bandages is a great help to new players like myself. Thank you.

NEW is a great guild on uo lostlands. they often have different helper ranks but no hard time limit since people's commitments are different. however you can be actively enrolled (server prompts) but they are super quick to help in discord.

Part of me thinks this is a good idea.

Part of me wants to ask if the new player has looked at guild ads on the forums and discord and reached out to talk with a contact person.

"new" guild on some servers are like newbie island prompts. you may get another NEW guild prompt and a "guide" may be teleport-ed to help (uo lost lands i believe they work like counselors)
