Mastery Chains, Echoes & Multiple Characters

I am hoping to start a conversation regarding this topic. I would like to hear others thoughts on this and I would also like to see if the server's admin team has a stance on this issue.

Regarding end game PvM character advancement, most people play ONE character. The main reason for this is the Mastery Chain and the time required for progressing it. If someone wants to play another template, they will just purchase an echo on the same character so they maintain the progress they've already put forth toward their Mastery Chain AND continue to level that Mastery Chain that they have already invested so much in.

My specific question is, why are Mastery Chains tied to a character vs. the account? Additionally, what would be the cons to tying Mastery Chains at the account level?

No one will be leveling more than one mastery chain. The only thing I can come up with is that when a person starts to purchase multiple echoes 3+, the gold/items taken out of the game are far greater than if I were to create multiple characters. This leaves us having to abandon all other PvM characters and put all resources into one character if we want to maximize benefits from progressing our mastery chain.

Thoughts?

I've asked for and lightly lobbied for the same thing.. I'm personally not a fan of echos, but now they are here to stay, they also came a long way into the server life, when some of us, had already gone down the rabbit hole of multiple characters, multiple chains (I have 4 PvM characters, with 3 chains - 8, 4, 1 link unlocked). Now with the echos I look at it, as 3 wasted characters, skill orbs, scrolls, and keep contemplating consolidating it all back to one character. Anytime I play anything but my main PvM character, I feel like I'm losing out because I'm not gaining XP on my main account and it's a huge grind. Yet I keep playing them because I've now identified with those characters and sunk millions into different outfits for each of them.. Putting the light sulking aside..

Master Chains at account level:
  • people will potentially play multiple characters again, it will cause gold to be spent on multiple characters in the form of: skill scrolls, skill orbs, aspects (sometimes the same ones for multiple characters), multiple chains, with links filling each chain
  • people may avoid the gold sink of using multiple echos - yet I've got echos on two of my characters now and will likely get one on a 3rd character soon - though I haven't unlocked multiple echos on the same character - so I'm not sure they won't get used, just used differently.
  • people may not use the multiple load outs customization for the shelf
  • people may use the lowered echo change time on multiple characters - or not at all - hard to say
  • people may identify to their characters, through their outfits, names, etc for different builds - far easier (is this a thing? I mean it is for me)
  • far more immersive when one character isn't the master of everything (this may be a stretch - but I feel different characters identify in different roles, and it's a roleplay game for crying out loud.)
Honestly - I'm not sure why they stopped at a character level - you opened pandora's box, leave us with the freedom of choice by only having us do the grind on the account - especially when it's such a long grind.

And once we get it to one account, everyone will say - why not on the account group? And honestly? Why not? It's a long enough grind that it's worth sharing it across all accounts.

Haha, I appreciate the consistency! While it sounds absurd at first, the logic still holds up. No one will be leveling two chains. Why not IP-wide? You bring up good points about outfits, I completely forgot about that resource consumption. The costs have to be somewhat similar-ish...

I am very curious to know if thought has been given to this. I mean, if it has been looked into and the decision is final, then it is what it is and I'll shut up and keep playing this fabulous game. But, if it hasn't been looked into, then let's do it!!!!

ALSO......................................

I don't think Echoes and Account/IP-wide chains would be mutually exclusive.
However, I do think leveling 2 chains is, has, and always will be crazy-talk.

I'm have been playing a month or so and I have multiple characters because that is just what I do. Most times I have 2-3 tons logged in doing "something". I had no idea that people only play one character and use echoes to swap between builds. Hell I have two tamers! One for dungeon crawling and one for harvesting leather. I have yet to buy a chain becuse I'm still broke (< 400k between all accounts)

But I believe once I am able to afford a chain, then it would only make sense to just spend my time on one toon.

What if, there was a way to link the chains among your various toon on the same account and they share the exp. So if I am on one tamer with a chain that is linked to another chain on my other tamer they both are being worked even tho I'm only playing one toon. Maybe a mastery chain exp link scroll that sells for a crap ton of gold.

I would then see more players playing more than one toon, but then I would expect people would spend less on echoes.

Idk, just my thoughts as a new player looking in.

Or a 1x use deed that increases/matches exp on all chains on one account at time of use.

Example: tamer has 10k exp, dexer has 5k exp, buy a deed on my tamer for 300k, use deed and then my dexer chain increases to 10k exp.

Idk if this is even viable, I assume chains are linked to one toon and can't be traded to other players to prevent abuse.
