Outlands inception of Cities and Dungeons

When UO Outlands was formed, did they ever consider or say why they didnt carry over any of the Classic Cities and Dungeons? I played from 97-2003 and I just started a few days ago. The function of the server is great, but not having a couple of those Classic Cities and Dungeons feels like some missing magic.

If you look from far enough you might see that the largest continent of Avadon resembles Britannia, some of the Avadonian cities are distant cousins to the Brittanic ones, in their street layouts, materials used and geographical locations. Visit the Wildlands and you will find actual ruins of some of the cities of old. Join one of the Factions and explore the faction dungeon to see if the place brings back any memories. You might start thinking that Avadon is what is left after some apocalyptic event hit Britannia.

The above is the lore behind it - I personally am glad they rebuilt everything in their own image. Having tried the classic dungeons in factions, I get zero enjoyment from them, the layouts aren't great, the mobs are boring and uninspired, and ultimately over the years I've figured out my nostalgia for UO was mostly as a first love, and the sense and feeling of exploration I got from the game. I've been to several classic shards that I got bored of within months. Outlands has been the first to actually capture my attention for years.

If you look around the map you will find little pieces of the old UO that just touch on the heart strings enough to trigger that nostalgia for me, without being too invested into the old tired tilesets, and layouts. Burnt Cove, Telescope Island are a couple of my favorites.

I missed the first couple months of Outlands because I wanted nothing to with a UO that didn't include Brit Bank and those trumpets playing as I entered the city.

However, the longer I play here (going on almost 6 years) the more I realize UO is so much more than all of that. And, to be honest, that nostalgia feeling isn't long lived. Maybe the reason I avoided Outlands in the first place is the reason why Outlands has kept me hooked for 6 years now and also why all those replica servers never seem to hold my interest for more than a couple months at a time.

Great responses! As a new newb I genuinely appreciate the insight. Now im interested to go out of the Young Player island and see what yall are hinting at. Think the only other things to add is i wish stat gain wasnt so fast lol. I feel like i hit 225 in 1 weekend.

This was with the new landmass expansion, but this area would probably trigger some nostalgia for most!

Now that I'm thinking on it, I wonder how much of that nostalgia conneciton is amplified by the music that is able to make connecitons with these feelings of nostalgia. TBH, I don't know if Outlands has any music. I used to love UO music. The only problem I had with music is that I wanted to hear it occasionally, but not for 2 hours straight. I was forced to either shut it off completely or have it endlessly looping in the background.

If I really think about it..... outside of WBB, my home town of Minoc (I was a noob miner once) and maybe my first house location, everything else is give or take. I really have fond memories of those locations, but the sheer beauty of what a couple guys did with this map is flat out jaw dropping and massively outweighs any nostalgia feeling you might have playing on the OG map. What they did here (aesthetically) really just puts OG UO look like child's play.
